Travel in Italy, don’t forget small places!

Category: Travel | By bukan | July 25, 2007 - 3:55 am |

No doubt that when one thinks of Italy, the larger cities such as Rome, Florence and Venice are the stars in Italy’s vacation line-up. However, do you know that the villages between can make your holiday sizzle? Don’t expect to find them listed in a San Diego directory either. In Tuscany alone, you’ll find Cortona, the towers of San Gimignano, the etruscan Volterra, “hidden Tuscany’s” Garfagnana, little Pienza and the wine towns of Montalcino and Montepulciano. In fact, wine villages often attract the best cooks and artisans, so a drive around the Chianti Classico can be memorable as well. Outside Tuscany, there is a wealth of forgotten places that tourists never see, like the beautiful Val Camonica, where the richest concentration of rock engravings in Europe is to be found.

The best places are often the forgotten ones. So when travelling for your vacation in Italy, don’t forget the smaller places!

CDC study finds dental health among young children worsening

Category: General | By bukan | - 3:42 am |

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported recently that tooth decay in baby teeth has increased 15 percent among U.S. toddlers and preschoolers ages 2 to 5 years old. During the period 1999-2004, 28 percent of young children had experienced cavities. CDC’s new national study, “Trends in Oral Health Status - United States, 1988-1994 and 1999-2004,” also found that 74 percent of young children who have experienced tooth decay were in need of dental repair.

So who says dental care is less important than rhinoplasty? In fact, here is what Professor Burton Edelstein of Columbia University has to say about the findings in the report:

“Findings that one-quarter of young children have cavities once again verifies that tooth decay remains the single most common chronic disease of childhood in the US. Trends among young children are both worsening and worrisome because so many parents have trouble finding dental care for their young children.”

Professor Burton Edelstein is also the Children’s Dental Health Project Board Chairman. So always remember to care for your dental health!

I was fired

And its not because I went for San Jose hair transplants. For the last departmental picnic, management decided that due to liability issues, we could have drinks, but only one (1) drink per person. I was fired for ordering the cups.
